Illuminate Your Holidays at the 2023 Athens-Clarke County Downtown Parade of Lights!
Get Ready to Sparkle: Athens-Clarke County Downtown Parade of Lights Returns!
Athens, brace yourselves for a spectacle of lights, art, and holiday spirit as the annual Athens-Clarke County Downtown Parade of Lights is all set to dazzle you on Thursday, December 7, starting at 7:00 PM. This year, we're embracing the theme “An Art Filled Holiday,” promising an evening filled with creativity and festive cheer.
The parade will transform downtown into a canvas of light and color. Expect a lineup of spectacular floats, each vying for top honors in categories like “Most Original Float,” “Best Use of Theme,” and the ever-glowing “Best Use of Lights.” The coveted “Mayor’s Award” awaits the best overall float, ensuring a night of competitive creativity and fun!
A Route Filled with Enchantment
Our journey of lights begins at the corner of Hancock Avenue and Pulaski Street, weaving its way through the heart of downtown, and culminating in a grand finale with none other than Santa Claus lighting up the Christmas Tree in front of City Hall. Don't miss any twist and turn; grab the parade route map at www.accgov.com/parade.
Celebrating a Local Legend
This year, we are honored to have Harold Rittenberry, Jr., a renowned local artist, as our 2023 Parade Marshal. Harold's whimsical metal sculptures are a staple in Athens, symbolizing the joy of art, music, love, and nature. His presence adds a special touch to our “Art Filled Holiday” theme.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Mr. Rittenberry for his lifetime of artistic contribution to Athens. His work, from the Brooklyn Cemetery gates to the UGA campus, has touched many lives. Thank you, Mr. Rittenberry, for making this holiday season truly art-filled.
A Community Effort
Thanks to the Athens-Clarke County Unified Government and the Athens Downtown Development Authority, this parade is more than just an event; it's a celebration of our community's unity and artistic flair.
Remember, the ACC Downtown Parade of Lights is a “rain or shine” event. However, we prioritize safety; in case of severe weather, stay updated for any changes.
A Tribute to Mr. Rittenberry
